The America Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was a big federal spending bill that pumped at least 700 billion US dollars into government projects. At least 40 billion of that went to roads and transportation. The stoplight pictured above was built several months ago with funds from the spending bill. When workers work on these projects they usually leave a sign out that says "Putting America to Work" and another that says "Project funded by the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act". This gives advertising for President Obama and the Democratic Party who passed the stimulus bill.
The problem here is that most of the work is now complete, and the signs are still out for everyone to see. There are thousands of these signs still all over the country. The one I have pictured can be seen just below the traffic light. It has been beat up and has probably been run over a few times. The wording has become hard to see because someone had previously spray painted over it. Personally, I'm so glad someone washed it off so I can read the sign again!
